Winter Wedding Dinners at Landbogaarden

Family style Tuesday Weddings menu at Landbogaarden!

(Tak to Eva Lumina for the lovely pictures)

It gets quieter on Ærø in winter. And we love it, but it does mean that we have to work a little harder to make sure our wedding couples can find the best places to eat out! Ærøskøbing is the epitome of hygge, and well worth a visit off season - you just need to know where to go! Luckily, living on the island, we have connections…

Our cousin Jakob and his wife Gertrude run Landbogaarden, a pub, restaurant, dance hall and all-round cool place close to the Old Merchants House in Ærøskøbing. It was built by our shared great grandfather over a hundred years ago –and its current incarnation, under Jakob and Gertrude’s tender care, is as the most hyggelig & funky pub in town.

So at a recent family gathering, when we explained our concern about there not being so much open in November & December, Gertrude & Jacob quickly came up with a family style Winter Wedding menu at Landborgaarden.

Our idea is simple – bringing Danish hygge and tradition together to create a memorable evening for eloping couples or smaller groups who happen to choose a Tuesday (in winter) to get married!

The 3-course menu is set, (with a vegetarian option available) and everyone arrives at 18:00 where a glass of bubbles is served. Family style means that everyone sits at a long table together (like a family), Candles are lit, and you can expect to meet other couples from all over the world, or indeed, a curious local who has decided to eat out that evening too!

Gertrud (musician and an X-factor finalist) incorporates a few Danish wedding traditions and will even sing a song for you.

Jakob (former New Yorker & artist) will be cooking your meal, and might be encouraged to come out of the kitchen to explain his connection to the island and the family history of Landbogården.

The evening is rounded off with a delicious wedding cake - of course it’s a traditional Danish layer cake decorated with berries or sprigs of the season.

See you there!
